Environmental Education in Action

Delta Environmental Centre is an environmental education, training and consultation organisation.

It is an independent, registered, non-profit company that aims, through innovative education and training programmes, to enable people to improve their environment by promoting the management and sustainable use of all resources, in line with the South African Constitution.

We aim to encourage participation in environmental action projects by sharing appropriate knowledge and developing responsible values and attitudes.

We offer accredited and non-accredited skills courses and workshops for educators and environmental practitioners, as well as running experiential, curriculum-based programmes for learners from Grades 1 to 12.

Our venues are available for hire. The Auditorium seats 180 and the Function Room is an excellent venue for launches, lunches, and workshops.

Join us on Sunday, 29 November, for a talk by Vincent Carruthers on "The Magaliesberg Biosphere - The Mountains of Wonder".

The Magaliesberg  Biosphere Reserve was designated by UNESCO in June 2015. The idea of a biosphere reserve was put forward by Vincent Carruthers in November 2006 and for the past nine years he and a team of colleagues have worked constantly to win this prestigious international recognition. The region covers the mountainous country between Pretoria and Rustenburg and includes the Cradle of Humankind.  Biosphere reserves are fairly new in South Africa and not widely understood.  In an illustrated talk at Delta Environmental Centre, Vincent will explain what a biosphere reserve is and why this area in particular is so globally important.

A booklet "The Mountains of Wonder" - a celebration of the Magaliesberg Biosphere, compiled by Vincent Carruthers, will be on sale for R50.00.

Please join us for this fascinating and entertaining illustrated conversation about the Mountains of Wonder - an important biodiversity area on the doorstep of the fastest growing metropolitan area in the country.

Tea/coffee/biscuits will be available from 10h30

Talk from 11h00 to 12h00 with time for questions.

Adults R50;  pensioners and children R30
